After moving to Los Angeles in 1992, a nine-year-old Iranian boy wants to impress his new classmates with a pair of Air Jordan basketball shoes, thinking they will make him fly like Michael Jordan! The Magic Shoes is a USC Graduate Thesis film shot on Super 16mm film.

ARENA - Martin Rath - Short Feature, 23 minutes - Poland -

Screens at EBMC Performance Space - 7:30pm A hitchhiker is taken in by a remote Polish mountain community. Tested by the hardened locals and the unforgiving harshness of his new environment he constitutes his presence in the mountains. But whom do we have to prove of what we’re made of?

The World Peace Ceremony, founded in 1989, an annual event that’s united the most ancient of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

THE INVISIBLE PEAK - Gary Yost - Documentary, 21 minutes - Screens at EBMC Performance Space Screens at 4pm
The script, movingly narrated by Peter Coyote, provides both a historical and spiritual overview of place, and the long continuum of humans relating to and caring deeply for the peaks of Mt. Tamalpais.

BON IN DOLPO: Ancient Zhang Zhung Kingdom - Then And Now - Andrea Heckman - Documentary, 56 minutes Screens at EBMC Performance Space Screens at 4:30pm
Explores the story of ancient Zhang Zhung and Bön traditions that have persisted for centuries in Dolpo where ancient texts and practices have been preserved. Followers of Bön receive oral teachings and transmissions from teachers in a lineage unbroken from ancient times until the present day.

CULTURAL HERITAGE - A Village In The Clouds - Chan Wai - Radio Television Hong Kong - Documentary, 22 minutes

Jiuzhaigou Valley is located in Central China. Tibetan’s respect for nature is passed on generations by generations. They believe that there is a soul in every creation. It had used to be a place allowing the coexistence of human and nature.

MANUFACTURED MEMORIES - Neil Ira Needleman - Experimental, 5 minutes - Screens at EBMC Performance Space - 6:40pm Our memories anchor us to essential parts of our identity. Without them, we are adrift. The narrator of this story is adrift in a place that is unfamiliar. Like me, he’s aware that he has memory issues. And, like me, he compensates by manufacturing “memories” to replace the ones he’s lost. Some of my manufactured memories appear in this video.

LANGUAGE MATTERS with BOB HOLMAN - David Grubin - Documentary, 120 minutes

Includes interviews with songmen, linguists, and poets, including songman Charlie Mangulda, the only living speaker of Amurdak, an Aboriginal language once common in Australia’s Northern Territory. The film also features original music and songs in Welsh, Hawaiian and Aboriginal languages. When we lose a language, we lose a part of ourselves. Q&A follows with Bob Holman.
